SYLVIA GONZALEZ
Sylvia Gonzalez is originally from Mexico, from a small town one hour south from Mazatlán, where she graduated as a Private Accountant. She is married and have 5 children. She joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul the year she retired after working 25 years at an elementary school in Glendale, California where most of the student body were Hispanic. Her duties were bilingual Educational Assistant and translator.
She joined the Society of St. Vincent de Paul with the desire to help friends in need, but truly serving them made her grow as a person in spirituality and in friendship with her Vincentians brothers and sisters. She served as the Multicultural Diversity Committee Representative for two years in the Western Region.
Her first training as a Formator was in 2014. She continued to participate in Formator’s trainings, in 2015 at Contra Costa, California, In 2017 at San Diego with Kathy Iberle and Catalina Miller. In 2017, she was named Leader of the Western Region Spanish Formators. As the leader of Spanish Formators, she organized two Spanish Presenters and Formators trainings with the help of Aldo Barleta. The first training was via Zoom due to the pandemic and the second training in person in Seattle, Washington.
In May 2023, she participated in the National Spanish Formators Training under the direction of Marge McGinley, Tim Williams, and Guadalupe Sosa. In Los Angeles Council, Sylvia served 6 years as Conference President, 1 year as a Board Member, and 6 years as District President. On her Council she leads the presentation of Ozanam Orientations, Officers Trainings, The Basics of Home Visits, and Spiritual Advisors Training in Spanish and English. She is a member of a conference where she is the treasurer.
