Spiritual Retreat

  • 9:15 AM - 10:15 AM Spiritual Retreat: "Mary in Vincentian Spirituality" (SP)

9:15 AM - 10:15 AM Spiritual Retreat: "Mary in Vincentian Spirituality" (SP)

    Rita St. Pierre

During a meeting of the Society on February 4th, 1834, members of the first conference adopted the proposal that the conference be placed under the patronage of St. Vincent de Paul. Frederic asked for a decision to be taken that the conference place itself under the protection of the Virgin Mary which was accepted. During this retreat, we will reflect on how our Mother Mary can nurture our spirituality as
Vincentians, always guiding us toward her Son.

  • Tim Williams

Simplicity, humility, gentleness, selflessness, and zeal. You learned the list in Ozanam Orientation, and perhaps you can list them from memory, but why did St. Vincent consider these particular virtues so important? And how can we, in a truly practical sense, live these virtues in our Conferences, in service to the neighbor, and in every part of our lives?

  • Marge McGinley

In this Vincentian journey, we often feel God is calling us to multiple things at once, as if we are being forced to choose between two or more good works. Discover how to combine our Vincentian Servant leadership, reflection and decision-making so that you feel confident you are responding to God’s invitation to serve in His way.

Keynote Address

  • 1:15 PM - 2:15 PM Keynote Presentation: "From Vision to Mission: Vincentian Spirituality as the Key" (SP)

1:15 PM - 2:15 PM Keynote Presentation: "From Vision to Mission: Vincentian Spirituality as the Key" (SP)

Msgr. James Moroney, Pastor, St. Cecilia Church, Leominster, MA

  • Marge McGinley & Rita St. Pierre

As Vincentians we are often pouring ourselves out in the service of God’s people. Come and learn how to care for our neighbors in need and remain content and gracious in all situations. Discover how to pour yourself out without wearing yourself out.

  • Tim Williams

The Society of St Vincent de Paul does not have spiritual directors, we have spiritual advisors, most of whom, like the rest of the members, are lay Catholics. So what does it take to fulfill this special calling as the “spiritual animator” of a Conference or Council? How do you lead a reflection? And what is a “formation plan” anyway?

  • Group Dinner with Vision SVdP presentation by Mark Gordon, National Vice President, Northeast Region

Last year, the Northeast Region was a trailblazer in embracing the VisionSVdP process. In this after-dinner talk, Mark Gordon, National Vice-President for the Northeast Region, will update us on the results of VisionSVdP and the timeline for implementation nationally.

Michael Acaldo, CEO, National Council Society of St. Vincent de Paul

In his decades as Executive Director of the SVdP Baton Rouge, Michael Acaldo
placed an emphasis on innovation. In this address, Michael will introduce himself
as the new CEO of the National Council. He will look ahead to his vision for the National Council but also look back and share some lessons learned about Vincentian inspiration and innovation.

  • Neil Lucey

Mutare Vitam (Latin for “change a life”) is an initiative created by the St Mary’s Conference in the diocese of Rockville Center NY, to engage at a more profound level with neighbors to affect a life changing experience to break the chain of poverty.

  • Raymond Sickinger

St. Vincent, St. Louise, Blessed Frederic, and Blessed Rosalie were all relentless innovators, founding new ministries that ranged from hospitals and orphanages to religious communities and our own lay Society. In this presentation, Dr. Sickinger will introduce us to the original innovative spirit of the Vincentian community.

  • Judith Coleman & Deb Zabloudil

The role of the Poverty Action Committee is to foster innovative, systemic change programs as well as cooperation and interaction among special interest groups. As an example, Debra will trace the 10-year evolution of the microloan program in East St. Louis, IL.

  • Toni Raczkowski, Tim Spellman & Sandy Figueroa

Innovation in advocacy is important because it can help advocates achieve their goals more effectively. Learn what your fellow Vincentians have done, and what you can do, to stand out from the crowd and advocate more successfully for our neighbors in need.
